Glacier National Park

I went on a three day camping trip to Glacier National Park for an end of the summer hoorah, and it was definitely one of the most beautiful trips I’ve ever taken. We hiked miles and miles and saw lots of amazing rivers, lakes, glaciers, and mountains as well as some pretty cool wildlife. Our second day there we decided to go on a 14 mile hike up to Grinnell Glacier, and I decided to bring my Polaroid Camera in my day pack. The only problem was that once we got to the top I realized I only had 3 film left in the camera and I had left the rest in my tent. So I carefully planned out where I would use these last three film on the way down so as not to waste them. Well, we hike down the mountain and are about one mile from the car when I was about to use my last Polaroid on this gorgeous lake and someone tells us there is a moose up ahead. Of course I couldn’t pass up taking a picture of a moose eating in the water! So I passed the gorgeous lake to go find the moose and get my Polaroid pic of him.
We finally find the moose and quickly realize it’s pretty hard to see him because of all of the trees blocking our view of the water. So I tried to find the best angle from where I was at and finally snapped my last Polaroid pic of the hike. It was a mediocre picture. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either.
Heck, it was a moose eating in a lake in Glacier National Park, so I was a happy camper.
Once we got our fill of watching this moose, my group started moving on our way and not even 50 yards down the path there was a clearing in the trees with an absolutely gorgeous view of the moose in the whole lake with the mountains in the background. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t wait to use my film.
On the way back to our campsite I was thinking back on this situation and it made me think, if I only had one Polaroid film for my whole life or even just my whole trip to glacier, I would for sure use it on something beautiful in my eyes, only to find something 10x more beautiful 100 yards down the path.
This made me so so thankful that I am not the one planning my life, because I would plan so many detours that are beautiful in my eyes, but they would be mediocre in comparison to God’s plan. I would miss out on everything 100x more beautiful that God had planned 100 yards down the path of life.

So thank you Jesus for planning my life more beautifully than I could ever imagine and pushing me along past the mediocre detours that I would otherwise get stuck on.
